Bothe children and adults were thrilled with the creative energy of Les Percussions de Strasbourg yesterday after their afternoon concert at Zagreb Puppet Theatre... Great success of Croatian composers at this year's Biennale continued last night at the concert of the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra at the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall...&TD Theater hosted a real "mini festival" last night – a performance of the Belgian Ensemble Ictus. Only the toughest could examine the relationship between the visual and the auditory from all aspects together with the ensemble through a collage of 11 pieces. Among the performed pieces was also the composition Distorted Points by the Croatian composer Davor Branimir Vincze.

 

What's on the programme the last day of the 29th Music Biennale Zagreb?

After seven days of bustling concert activities, we begin the last day of this year's Biennale in a more contemplative manner. "At this concert I will improvise to the art templates of renowned Croatian painters: Vladimir Blažanović, Tihomir Lončar, Željko Mucko and Davorin Radić. The selection of their works is carefully thought out and forms a thoughtful path of a kind: Pieta – Man – Couple – Guardians – Shadow – Sun Trail – The Noa’s Show – Christ and the Blind man. Interweaving of the spiritual and the earthly, death and life, light and shadow, is a kind of a musical antonym that is also the prerequisite of the life of music: contrast, conflict, reflection, emotion, affect, state,” commented Ante Knešaurek on his organ recital, and cordially invites you to the Basilica of the Heart of Jesus in Palmotić Street. As a skilled and proven master of improvisation, Knešaurek refers to improvisation as "an elusive, never-written composition with only the audience as a witness." Come and witness the noon concert of this creative composer and organist who dares to convey his emotions and thoughts into a music moment. 

The new makeup of the Zagreb Woodwind Trio (Žarko Perišić, bassoon, Domagoj Pavlović, clarinet and Branko Mihanović, oboe) continues the tradition of this ensemble founded in 1969 – promoting music for wind instruments. Its extensive repertoire consists of compositions of all styles and periods, although the ensemble is inclined more toward contemporary music. Numerous compositions have been written at the initiative of the Trio, and many Croatian composers have dedicated their pieces to them.  Today’s concert at the Croatian Music Institute at 5 pm will feature the compositions by two Croatian composers – Aeolian Symmetries by Danijel Legin and the Quartet for oboe, clarinet, bassoon and piano by Branimir Lazarin. The second part of the program is devoted to foreign contemporary authors – the Korean composer Isang Yun (Rondell) and the German composer Robert H. P. Platz (Branenwelten). The Zagreb Woodwind Trio will be accompanied by Srebrenka Poljak on piano.

We have reached the final program of this year's Music Biennale. And at the very end – we go underground. In the Grič Tunnel you will experience the joining of the worlds: TE – undercut  opera opens up a new world, built on the idea of ​​isolation. Due to the acoustic and spatial uniqueness of the tunnel the audience actually becomes a participant in the performance. Audible and visible co-creator of underground – a walkway through an art work or a shelter from the society it represents. The undercut opera does not follow the formal content of the opera and is actually a hybrid between an opera and a theater performance that provokes both in the musical and the stage segments. Who stands behind this "cropped opera from the underground"? Two composers of different generations – Ana Horvat and Dalibor Bukvić, the director Natalija Manojlović, and the Antiphonus Vocal Ensemble, who, immersed in the context of a performer, is treated as a group of individuals who hide from the socio-political hurricane in an underground art field. There are too many unknowns and intrigue not to check this program. Due to a limited number of seats in the Grič Tunnel, two performances are on the repertoire today – at 8 pm and 10 pm; while tomorrow, on April 30, the last performance will be held at 3 pm.
